About the Colonel Stephens Society

Formed in 1984, the Colonel Stephens Society caters for enthusiasts of the highly charismatic railways engineered and/or managed by Colonel Holman Fred Stephens. Now, the society has grown to more than 300 members worldwide.

We produce a 20-page quarterly newsletter, The Colonel, packed with news stories and features exploring every aspect of The Great Man's railways and of his life and times. Articles cover not only previously-unrecorded historical information, such as first-hand accounts, but also model-making, including scale drawings, and news items on current events in the heritage railway world, where four of the Colonel's railways have survived.

In keeping with our constitutional commitment to "encourage the preservation of any surviving relics" of the railways engineered or managed by the Colonel, we have also made donations to heritage projects, such as the restoration of locomotives and buildings with a Colonel connection.

Membership costs just £7 a year for UK members, £12 for those living outside the UK, or £9 for joint members living at the same address. A membership application form is is on the link below. Don't delay: join today!
